Gessica Sakamoto Martini holds a BSc degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Turin (Italy) and an MSc in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Bologna (Italy). She moved to Durham (UK) to pursue a PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology at Durham University, where she studied the evolution of fairytales, particularly Cinderella. Upon completing her PhD, she took part in several creative writing courses held by the London Lit Lab where, under the guidance of author Zoe Gilbert, she delved into the use of fairytales in fiction. Given her expertise and passion for folklore, she tweets weekly about fairytales symbolism on her Twitter page @GJMartini.
Gessica works as a Fiction Editor at Orion’s Belt, a magazine of science fiction and fantasy.
She currently lives in Italy with her husband Takashi and their two cats, Buntaro and Jiji.
